Overseas Union Enterprise Limited raises SGD$117,000 during preview of the new Mandarin Gallery
Singapore, 23 May 2008 – The Mandarin Gallery preview was held on 22 May 2008 and ended on a charitable note. A total of SGD$117,000 was raised for five paintings created by top Chinese ink artist Wang Zijiang who had specially flown in from Japan for this occasion.
The auction was conducted by Sotheby’s. Proceeds from the auction went to The Business Times Budding Artists Fund to help underprivileged children between the ages of five and 12 years pursue their aspirations to develop artistic talents in music, dance, theatre, visual arts and theatre production. Special thanks go to the donors who contributed generously to this cause.
Organised by Overseas Union Enterprise Limited (OUE), and held at the ballroom of Mandarin Orchard Singapore, the preview drew a total of 350 guests who were given a first peek into the spanking new look of the upscale shopping and lifestyle destination. Local glitterati were out in force to support the preview which was hosted by MediaCorp artist Andrea Fonseka. Guests enjoyed exquisite tapas prepared by the hotel’s chefs and specialty tuna flown in from Hana Zushi, a sushi restaurant in Tateyama-city, Chiba.
Says Dr Clement Wang, OUE’s Executive Vice President for Investor Relations: “It was a great night and for a good cause. Many guests were curious as to what would be unveiled for the new Mandarin Gallery and tonight’s preview gave a good prelude of what is to come.”
When completed, the SGD$200 million facelift will transform Mandarin Gallery into a high-end shopping and lifestyle destination. High-end fashion labels Y3, Just Cavalli, Ferre and Tru Trussardi, will be part of the new tenant mix – these sought-after brands will also be launched in Singapore for the first time.
