With its unique monsoon tropical climate, Hainan is wet, hot and full of light and energy. In January and February, the average temperature is between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius and between 25 and 29 degrees Celsius in July and August. The rainy season starts from May to October with an annual rainfall of 1500-2500mm.
The official language in China is Putonghua – translated as ‘Common Speech’. There are eight other major dialect groups that are spoken in different parts of China, which are further divided into sub-dialects. In Hainan, the Hainanese dialect, which sounds quite distinct from Putonghua, is also commonly spoken.
