Langkawi Island is located just off the coast of North Western Malaysia, about 30km from Kuala Perlis, and close to Thailand. Langkawi is part of an archipelago of 99 islands and the island itself is the largest, measuring about 478.5 sq km, and is only one with any real inhabitants. It is fringed by lovely beaches such as Pelangi Beach and Cenang Beach and still boasts a peaceful rural landscape with villages and paddy fields. Langkawi is the first UNESCO geopark in Southeast Asia.
